Seaplane landing in a tropical lagoon. The floats on the plane replace wheels, allowing it to land on water. The dark blue water is deeper and safer to land on than the shallow blue waters near the reef (background). There are numerous chains of islands scattered over the Indian and Pacific oceans, and air transport is often a vital way of travelling between the islands. Photographed in 2003, in the Maldives in the Indian Ocean.
