Concorde engine. Technician working on an engine from a Concorde supersonic aircraft. This is a Rolls-Royce/Snecma Olympus 593 turbo jet engine. Concorde has four of these engines. Each engine produces 170 kiloNewtons (kN) of thrust. Together the four engines burn 25,000 litres of fuel per hour. The engines have afterburners to provide additional thrust to achieve supersonic speeds. Concorde is the only civil airliner with afterburners. Photographed in the maintenance hangar at Heathrow Airport, London, England.
