Aircraft wing air flow. Computer graphic showing the pattern of air flow over an aircraft wing. The wing is seen in section from the side, and the air is flowing from left to right. The lift of an aircraft during flight is generated because of the shape of the wings. The shape causes changes in the flow of the air, leading to reduced pressure above the wing, causing the air below the wing to exert an upward force or lift. The pressure of the air is here represented by the spacing between the lines, with wide spacing (lower pressure) over the wing, and close spacing (higher pressure) beneath the wing, as expected.
