Aeroplane engine maintenance. Engineer working on a Rolls Royce RB211 engine during routine aircraft maintenance. This is a turbofan engine used to power jumbo jet aircraft such as the Boeing 747. Fan blades draw air into the engine to provide thrust for the aircraft. The fan is powered by turbine blades (not seen) turned by hot air expelled from rear of the engine. The Rolls Royce RB211 engine was developed during the 1960s.
