Crash test dummies. Researcher prepares a vehicle for a crash test by measuring the sitting position of the dummy. The researcher is recording the position with a machine that measures in two dimensions. A crash test dummy, or anamorphic dummy, is jointed and weighted to behave like a human body would during an impact. The dummies are also heavily instrumented with accelerometers. Black and white patterns are painted on the dummy's head and the car. These help researchers to determine the position of the dummy when studying film of the crash.
