Daytona International Speedway, Daytona, Florida, USA, as seen by the Ikonos satellite. This motor racing circuit is host to major sporting events all year. The main oval track covers a length of 4 kilometres and features raised banks of up to 31 degrees. The dark rectangle at centre is Lake Lloyd. The Ikonos satellite was launched in 1999 and is the first commercial satellite to collect data at one-metre resolution. It orbits at an altitude of 681 kilometres. Image taken on 15 September 2000.
