Smart car. This Volkswagen Beetle has been adapted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Agelab researchers for the needs of elderly drivers. This includes a collision avoidance system, an anti-glare windscreen for vision enhancement and a warning sound if the car wanders from its lane. Other modifications include a raised driver seat, pedal extensions and corrective mirrors. Drivers over the age of 75 years are the group most likely, after teenagers, to suffer a fatal car accident.
