Refuelling a diesel car. Hand-operated pump being used to fill a motor vehicle's fuel tank with diesel. Diesel, like petrol, is a fossil fuel obtained from oil. Diesel is denser than petrol, and releases more energy when burnt, but it can only be used in diesel engines, and not in petrol engines. This is a brand of diesel called City Diesel. It is sold by the UK supermarket chain Sainsbury's, and is a cleaner alternative to standard diesel fuels, having been cleaned of impurities such as sulphur. City Diesel was introduced in 1995.
