Car exhaust. Thermogram of the exhaust pipes on a motor vehicle that has recently been running. The pipes are still warm from the hot gases which result from the combustion of its fuel. The tyre is warm due to friction. A thermogram shows the variation in temperature on the surface of an object, measured by the long-wave infrared radiation it emits. The temperature scale is colour-coded and runs from blue (coldest) through green, yellow, orange, red and pink to white (warmest).
