Caption

Gyrocompass (lower right) on the bridge of a ship. A gyrocompass uses a spinning gyroscope and friction forces in order to exploit the rotation of the Earth and find true North. They are used widely on ships. Unlike magnetic compasses, they are not affected by metal in a ship's hull.
