Pearl Harbour. Satellite image of Pearl Harbour, Hawaii, USA. North is at bottom. Pearl Harbour is a sheltered bay on the south coast of the Hawaiian island of Oahu. The channel at top leads out into the Pacific Ocean. Much of the shoreline and the central island (which has a runway) is occupied by Pearl Harbour Naval Base and Hickam Air Force Base. Docks are at upper left and ships are seen in the harbour. A major road runs down left and across bottom. Clouds (white) are seen drifting over the area, which is about 8 kilometres across. Pearl Harbour is famous for the attack carried out here in 1941 by Japan, bringing the USA into World War II. Image taken by the Ikonos satellite on 24 December 1999.
