Dry powder fire extinguisher. Pressurized cylinder containing a dry chemical powder for use in fighting a fire. Unlike a water-containing fire extinguisher, this one may be safely used on an electrical fire as well as on flammable liquids & gases and paper & fabric. The cylinder is operated by pressing the lever (upper right). The powder covers the fire and starves it of oxygen. The blue background to the word "powder" is used due to a previous British colour- coding standard, although all types of fire extinguishers in the European Union are now red.
