Lighthouse illuminated to warn ships of a rocky coastline. A unique series of flashes also allows ships to determine the identity of a lighthouse from sea, and therefore their position. This is the main lighthouse at Portland Bill in Dorset, England. It was built in 1906, but there has been a lighthouse on the site since 1716.
