Driving simulator. Technician monitors a computer used in a virtual reality driving simulator. The driver in the car mock-up in the background feels immersed in the simulated environment because the image projected on the wall fills his vision. Sensors detect the movements of the driver's arms, legs, & eyes. A computer matches these movements to stored models of driver behaviour, allowing it to quickly determine the driver's action. The driver is warned if he is about to do anything dangerous. This system could be installed in cars to reduce the number of accidents. Photographed during "smart car" research at a Nissan laboratory in Massachusetts, USA.
