Simulated airliner "near miss". Pilot training to handle a collision avoidance situation in a Boeing 777 aircraft simulator. Another airliner (computer-generated graphic, upper left) is dangerously close. The pilot is warned by his onboard TCAS (Traffic Alert/Collision Avoidance System), which displays a red square on the navigation display (largest panel, lower right). This, along with audio warnings, indicates a Resolution Advisory (RA), the highest alert level. The system prompts the pilot about what action to take to avoid a collision. TCAS uses radio transponders. It is installed on all commercial aircraft.
