Underwater archaeology. Remora 2000 two-seater submarine (upper centre) and Super Achille remotely operated vehicle (left) surveying an ancient wreck. The two craft are placing markers (numbered balls) to aid in building up an accurate 3-dimensional map of the site from photographs (this is termed photogrammetric mapping). Amphoras (jars used to carry oil or wine) are seen partly buried in silt (one at far left). Photographed at the Sud-Caveaux 1 site, off the Mediterranean coast of France. The wreck is at a depth of about 65 metres.
