Ocean technology. Image 1 of 4. Scuba diver releasing fluorescein dye at the source of a fresh water spring on the seabed. This image was taken during the construction of a base over the source to harness the flow of fresh water. The dye will help the researcher to understand the pattern of flow of the water. The source is at a depth of 36 metres below the surface, and is about 800 metres offshore on the Franco-Italian border in the Mediterranean Sea. The spring is fed from the Alps. See T700/113-115 for images of the construction of a flexible pipe to take the water to the surface to make it available to passing boats. Photographed in 2003.
