It has no physical link with the surface, instead being controlled by a two-way acoustic link. It is powered and controlled by five motors; one vertical and two each in the horizontal and forward-backward directions. It can dive to a depth of around three kilometres, way beyond the reach of a human diver. It is a joint project between Cybernetix and Ifremer of France, HitecVision of Norway and the Joint Research Centre at Ispra, Italy.
