Marine archaeologist holding an amphora, collected from the underwater excavation of the harbour at Caesarea Maritima, Israel. This harbour was commissioned by King Herod the Great in 21 BCE. Amphorae are ancient two-handled pottery jars, used to store wine or olive oil. Photographed off the coast of Israel, near modern day Tel Aviv.
