Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a 250-micron wobble motor. The central core is made of plastic, and is surrounded by metal armature wires. The object seen running diagonally across the right of the frame is a human hair included for comparison. Wobble motors such as this are made individually by scaled-down traditional machine methods, unlike silicon micromotors which are made by etching techniques. Wobble motors are typically a few millimetres long, and may be used with tiny drill bits to perform engraving tasks. The wobble motors are fairly durable, one having completed over 10 billion rotations prior to failure.
