Sandstorm wind tunnel test. Man dressed in boots, goggles and a wind jacket, struggles against a sandstorm created in a wind tunnel. The effective- ness of his clothes to withstand such climatic conditions can be tested. The climate may be changed from winds of more than 200 km per hour, to powerful artificial sunlight and desert conditions, snow and rain. This research is conducted at Centre Scientifique et Technique des Batiments (CSTB), Nantes, France. The Centre can also accommodate models of whole towns at a scale of 1/100 to 1/200. Stadiums, high rise offices, bridges, cars and Ariane space rockets can also be tested in simulated climates.
