MIT HelioDome Project. The MIT HelioDome is a light measuring device, known as a goniophotometer, that can detect light reflected from a sample from multiple angles. The device comprises of a tilting table covered by an acrylic dome. A sample is placed at the centre of the table and a light source is directed through the dome. Light rays reflected from the sample bounce off the inside of the dome and hit a light sensor. This data enables manufacturers of coated glass, solar blinds and other systems to create more efficient products. The HelioDome was built by Marilyne Andersen (centre), Professor of Building Technology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, and her team from the MIT Daylighting Lab.
