Rusting ship. Rust is hydrated iron oxide, produced by a chemical reaction between iron metal and the water and oxygen in the air. This replacement of the original metal weakens the structure, as rust is more porous and brittle than iron. This is the Cherry Venture, shipwrecked in 1973 near Rainbow Beach, Queensland, Australia.
