Copper tube deposits. Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of deposits inside a copper tube. Copper tubes are commonly used in kettles, where they can be coated in calcium and magnesium carbonates (limescale) that precipitates onto the tubes from boiling water. Photographed as part of work on the corrosion of metals. This work is being carried out at the Scientific Institute, a research establishment in Breda, Italy.
