Whisky smelling. Whisky worker smelling whisky from a glass with a jug seen in the foreground. Whisky is made from grain, malt and water through a very time-consuming process. To mature the whisky, it is left in wooden casks (barrels), usually made of oak, for up to 20 years. It is important to check the maturity of the whisky regularly by tasting and smelling it.
