The Puente Hills Landfill Gas Recovery Facility, California, a plant which generates electrical power from methane gas released from a waste dump. Collecting the gas is an alternative to allowing its unpleasant smell to escape from the tip. The gas is used as fuel to raise steam and drive a turbine generator with an output of 46.5 megawatts 70,000 homes. The plant is managed by an alliance of 27 districts in Los Angeles County.
