Recycling of drinks cans. Close-up of a bale of compressed drinks cans. The vast majority of 'tin' cans used to contain beer or soft drinks are now made out of thin aluminium. This means that they may be compressed easily and sent for recycling. Even the old 'ring pull' opening device has been replaced. Now a ringed lever is used to open a hole in the top, the ring remains fixed to the can. In many towns and cities one may find a 'can bank' where the public may deposit empty cans for collection and recycling.
