Recycling scrapped cars. Pile of scrapped cars awaiting processing at a metal recycling centre. The internal parts, such as batteries, seats, engines and wheels, have been or will be removed, and the metal parts of the car will be turned into piles of metal ribbons using a metal shredder. The shredding makes it easier to sort and process the metal. A large shredder can process several tons of metal in just a few seconds. The shredded metal will be transported to a furnace to be melted down and used to make new metal products. For a pile of shredded metal, see T820/430.
