Mud and lath wall. The decaying mud and lath wall of an ancient French barn. Covering a structure of wooden stakes and "laths" with unbaked mud was the usual way of building houses and barns in medieval Europe. It was also the traditional method used in Australia, Africa, the Middle East and the Far East.
