Spluegen, Switzerland. Schist roofs in the Swiss town of Spluegen in the canton of Grisons. This town's houses are examples of traditional Swiss architecture, and the schist (a metamorphic rock) is quarried in the local area. In 1995, the Swiss Heritage Society awarded its Wakker Prize to Spluegen in recognition of its architectural heritage. Spluegen is in the Swiss Alps, at an elevation of 1475 metres.
