View of the San Francisco Bay Bridge in fog. The Bay Bridge spans the bay, connecting the city of San Francisco with Oakland. It is of an unusual two-level design, San Francisco-bound traffic travelling on the upper deck and Oakland-bound traffic on the lower. Part of the bridge was destroyed during the 1989 earthquake, the upper deck collapsing onto the lower one, causing considerable loss of life.
