View of the transporter bridge which spans the River Tees at Middlesborough in the UK. The bridge was constructed in 1911 to replace the old ferry-boat crossing there. It is a total of 260 metres wide and around 68 metres high. A cradle suspended from the main girder ferries cars and passengers (600 and 750 of each, respectively, per day) across the 174-metre stretch of water in about 2 minutes.
