Caption

Kimberlite mine, Mimi, Yakuta, Russia. Kimberlite is an igneous rock containing the mineral olivine. It is named after Kimberley in South Africa, where its main reserves are found, but as well as there and Russia it is also found in the USA. It is the parent rock of diamond and an important source of clear pyrope crystals (Cape ruby), which are used in jewellery.
