Uranium ore processing. Worker walking past a furnace in a facility for processing uranium ore. In this case, uranium carbonate, which is a common component of uranium ores, is being processed. The uranium will be used to make nuclear fuel pellets. This facility is a hydrometallurgical factory, and is located in Krasnokamensk in the Chita region of Russia. The Chita region is in south-eastern Siberia, bordering Mongolia and China, and there are several uranium mines in the region. This facility is operated by the Priargunsky Industrial Mining and Chemical Association. Photographed on 7 August 2006.
