Gold extraction factory. Worker operating a resin separation unit used to extract gold from its ore. The water jets wash the ore over the resin, breaking it up. The gold is adsorbed onto the chemically active resin, while the soil and rock components of the ore are washed away. The resin can then be treated to extract the gold. Gold is a precious metal, and here it is being prepared for use in jewellery. This is the Kuranakh jewellery factory run by the OOO Aldanzoloto mining company that operates the Kuranakh gold and silver mines. Kuranakh is in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), in eastern Russia. Photographed on 2 September 2005.
