Turbine construction. Engineer manually measuring part of a turbine as part of quality control after manufacture. This turbine is intended for use in the engine of a ship; one of the ship's gear wheels is at left. The turbine is designed to convert the heat energy in steam into mechanical energy to drive a propeller. The science of measuring things is known as "metrology".
