Car production line at the Volkswagen Transparent Factory, Dresden, Germany. This factory, opened in 2001, was built to make the luxury Phaeton car model. The production line combines automation and manual craftmanship to ensure high standards of construction. Customers and tourists can tour the factory and watch the construction of the cars in clean, quiet areas with wooden floors. The worker is moving his tool kit trolley underneath cars on overhead carriers. The large rack (right) contains component parts to be added to the cars. Various stages include adding the parts, doors, wheels, engines and windows.
