Scientist changing the capillary column on a Perkin-Elmer Gas Chromatograph (GC), a computer-controlled instrument used to analyse the chemical composition of mixtures of gaseous & volatile liquid samples. Results are presented as a chromatogram, a print-out of the concentration of components in the mixture plotted against time, which appears as a series of peaks on a chart. The turntable in foreground contains special tubes that contain the various samples, prior to their injection into the GC.
