Pharmaceutical research on plants. Pharmaceutical technician places a plant sample into a NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) spectrometer. The NMR will identify the molecules in the plant extract due to characteristic wobbles the molecules make in a uniform magnetic field. The photograph was taken at Shaman Pharmaceuticals in San Francisco, USA. They use the traditional healing plants of indigenous medicine men, or shamans, from around the world as a basis for drug development. The company believes these plants are an excellent source of safe and effective drugs.
