Sintering furnace. Factory workers using a shield to safely view a sintering furnace (glowing orange rod). This contains metal objects that are being formed in a mould from a metal powder. The process of sintering involves heating the metal powder for several hours at a temperature that is below its melting point. The temperature used here is around 1200 degrees Celsius. This causes the powder to fuse and form a solid object.
