Caption

A carbonated drink foaming out of a bottle. Carbon dioxide gas is injected into the drink under pressure and at low temperatures when it is packaged. The carbon dioxide remains in solution until the pressure of the container (glass bottle or aluminium can) is relieved when it is opened. At this lower pressure, most of the carbon dioxide can no longer remain dissolved, so leaves solution in the form of the familiar bubbles.
