Non-stick saucepans. Factory worker inspecting non-stick saucepans on a production line. These saucepans have been coated with Cristome, an alloy of aluminium and manganese. This material has a quasi-crystalline structure, and is resistant to heat. In a thin layer on items such as these pans, it spreads heat evenly (preventing hot-spots), is scratch-resistant and its low coefficient of friction means that the pans are non-stick.
