Pasteuriser. Close-up of the gauge of a pasteuriser, which is used in the food industry to remove micro-organisms in products such as milk, beer and wine. The technique was developed by Louis Pasteur (1822-1895), a French chemist, who found that micro-organisms were destroyed when briefly exposed to high temperatures.
