Demonstration of an airport X-ray machine for baggage inspection. The image on the left screen is from a conventional X-ray scanner, the image on the right is produced by a newer scanner. False colour is used to enhance the image, allowing a block of Semtex explosive (near top centre of the screen) to be seen in yellow. Toward the left of each screen are two film canisters, the new scanner detecting that one contains cocaine. The new scanner operates in a similar fashion to medical body scanners, and can even reveal objects hidden behind 1cm thick steel plates.
