Fort Knox, USA. Satellite image of Fort Knox, a United States Army post in Kentucky, USA. It has the primary mission of training soldiers for the Armor Force. Fortifications were built at the site in 1862 during the American Civil War. Following the war, the site fell into disuse but was revived for military operations in 1917. The camp was turned into a permanent garrison in 1936 and is now a certified Kentucky city, covering 441- square-miles. Image taken on 2 October 2000 by Space Imaging's Ikonos satellite.
