Biometric eye scan. Computer artwork of a barcode over a human eye, representing an iris scan. The patterns of the iris, the coloured part of the eye, are very complex, with more than 200 unique spots. The iris is believed to be the most reliable distinguishing feature of an individual. When an iris is scanned, a computer will divide the scan into areas that are then compared to information already stored in a database. The process of automated identification of people using unique physiological traits is known as biometric identification. Other forms of biometrics includes fingerprints.
