Plate glass making. Two engravings of plate or crown glass manufacture during the 18th century. The worker is wearing a visor, gloves and an apron to protect himself from the heat of the furnace. A bulb of glass was blown (upper frame) and then an opening was made at its base. The glass was then reheated to soften it and then spun (lower frame) until a disk was formed.
