Robey steam engine. Artwork of a tandem compound steam engine manufactured by the Robey engineering company. Fuel, burnt in the furnace (right) produced steam that drove the piston (centre), which transfers energy to the flywheel (far left). This design was by the British engineer Robert Robey, based in Lincoln, who started business in 1854.
