Steam pressure gauge and recorder. Artwork of a self-registering steam pressure gauge with a dial (right) to show the reading and a rotating drum of paper (left) to record the reading. The gauge mechanism moves a pen across the steadily moving paper, with higher pressures moving the pen higher up the paper. This produces a permenent record of the variation in pressure with time. This is a British model, dating from the nineteenth to early twentieth century.
