US stenciling machine from the mid-20th century. This stenciling machine, made in the US, uses Cyrillic lettering. The dial is turned to select the required letter, and the red lever (right) is used to produce the letter on the printing template. The template is then used to mass produce further copies on paper. Also called mimeography, this technique, first patented in 1876, was eventually supplanted by the use of photocopiers. This machine is part of a historical exhibition at the Polytechnical Museum, Moscow, Russia. Photographed in 2006.
